Since its inception, RiverCloud has been, and continues to be, almost entirely funded by external grants we have written to support the project. Those grants were either awarded to and administered by Picture Lab from 2021-25, or were directly awarded to artists. We are not employees of Prescott School District, and PSD does not receive or administer our grants. We are a partner program that works within PSD.
We are grateful to be in community with PSD’s innovative rural educators who provide high-quality instruction at the school. Recently, PSD has been experiencing financial challenges. We, along with our colleagues at PSD and the public, are learning this heartbreaking information as the story unfolds. We are hopeful for a positive outcome for the students, staff, and families of a school we love dearly. We hope to see Prescott School thrive for decades to come, and we are supporting efforts for its success wherever possible.
When the River Becomes a Cloud / Cuando el río se transforma en nube is a project created by artists-in-residence Tia Kramer and Amanda Leigh Evans. Phase 1 of their residency at Prescott School District was commissioned and administered by Picture Lab as part of their Rural Art Initiative.
Phase 1 was funded by a pilot grant from Sherwood Trust and Blue Mountain Community Foundation, a SEL in Action grant from NoVo Foundation, an Arts in Education grant from ArtsWA, a National Endowment for the Arts Grant for Artist Projects, and a mini-grant from Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Phase 2 (June 2025 - Now) Beginning June 2025, When the River Becomes a Cloud / Cuando el río se transforma en nube moved into Phase 2. Phase 2 is administered by Prescott School District with Tia and Amanda.
Phase 2 is funded by a 2025 Anonymous Was a Woman / NYFA Environmental Art Grant.
